At my home we do lots of our grilling on the weekend
We will cook for a few days and then we have our healthy meals setup for a few days afterwards.
Generally by Wednesday evening we are cooking again. That night my wonderful, beautiful and perfect wife (who also reads these posts) Carol works a bit later than other days.
That means I might make a run to Whole Foods to pick up some fish or other sort of lean protein.
Well I was there yesterday and it was after I had hit some hard leg training. I knew I had some room in my day for more carbs and calories so I thought I’d treat myself to one of their berry-type protein shakes.
I grabbed one and checked the label
What in the hell? I might as well drink a can of coke if I’m going to have this much sugar!
That one must be some funky company, the next one will be good
These thigns are horrible, not only are they jam packed with TONS of sugar, but they are all soy protein as well.
I went home hungry and had some greek yogurt and berries instead.
Moral of the story is that you should be very careful what you are putting in your grocery cart. Do not assume taht Whole Foods means healthy. Sorry, it’s really not the case. The only healthy thing you can count on every time at Whole Foods is their mark up.
I’m not completely slamming them, I often end up there once a week to pick some stuff up and I loooove their fresh ground peanut butter.
The part that bothers me is that they really try to position themselves as a healthy grocery store.
The part that bothers me is that these companies try to tell you they are selling you a protein shake, but it’s so loaded with sugar and soy that it would be all, but impossible to lose weight with these as a regular part of your diet.
The part that bothers me is that most people dont’ bother to read the label and just go on blind faith that Whole Foods and “health companies” wouldn’t lie to them to make a buck.
So yeah, that bothered me.
Read the labels, make good choieces and put good fuel into your body.
Your body will look and feel happy.
